Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts (VLA) is the leading legal aid and education organization dedicated to New York artists and its arts and cultural organizations. VLA strives to protect the artistic community’s livelihoods, businesses, and creative works through access to dedicated legal representation and focused education programs.

VLA provides legal services to the arts community in every discipline, including: acting, animation, architectural design, bookmaking, choreography, composition, computer design, costume design, craft and folk arts, dance, directing, fashion, film, graphic design, installation art, literary arts, modeling, multimedia, music, photography, playwriting, poetry, printmaking, screenwriting, songwriting, theater, three-dimensional design, video arts, video game design, visual arts, and web design. 

VLA also plays an important role in educating artists, professionals within arts, cultural institutions, attorneys, students, and the general public about legal and business issues that affect artistic and creative endeavors.

LEGAL SERVICES

VLA provides legal services to low-income artists and all non-profit arts organizations in every artistic discipline. INTERNSHIPS

VLA is seeking an intern interested in marketing, social media, and looking to gain hands-on experience working at a small non-profit. What makes this internship exciting is the opportunity to gain substantive, practical experience at a small non-profit and the ability to contribute to the organization in a meaningful way. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, detail-oriented and have the ability to work independently when needed.

 

Responsibilities include assisting in the promotion of VLA’s education courses, drafting posts for social media outlets, researching and other marketing-related tasks. The intern will also assist in updating and organizing our client database and email list.

 

Qualifications:

·     Completed at least two years of college

·     Understanding of social media best practices and how to leverage platforms and hashtags to engage audiences

·     Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write persuasive copy for social media and marketing efforts

·     Understanding of Hootsuite and Constant Contact is a plus

The intern will report to the Marketing and Communications Associate and the Executive Director. The dates of the internship are flexible and we just ask for at least a 3-month commitment. The internship can be for college credit, but this isn’t required. Please note that this internship is not paid.
