The Academy of American Poets is the nation’s largest member-supported organization promoting poets and poetry. The Academy produces Poets.org, Poem-a-Day, National Poetry Month, and more. The Academy also awards College and University Prizes for great works by students.

Students can sign up for the free Poem-a-Day series, which is the original and only daily digital poetry series featuring over 200 new poems by today’s talented poets each year, including Hunter College professors Tom Sleigh and Meena Alexander.
Each fall, the Academy of American Poets presents a free series of conversations exploring how different art forms engage with poetry. These conversations pair some of today’s most intriguing poets with accomplished artists, dancers, chefs, and actors.
The Academy of American Poets, the largest member-supported organization championing poets and poetry in the United States, hosts several unpaid internship positions (10-20 hours/week) during the summer.
Responsibilities include helping to update content on Poets.org as needed; assisting with the execution of social media efforts (Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr); fulfilling orders for the Poets Shop, the Academy’s online gift shop; coordinating mailings for the Membership program; and performing general administrative and office duties, including answering telephones, general correspondence, photocopying, filing, proofreading, and office management.
Established in 1955, the University and College Poetry Prize program began with ten schools. Today, the Academy of American Poets sponsors over two hundred annual poetry prizes at colleges and universities across the U.S, and has awarded cash prizes to nearly ten thousand student poets since the program’s inception.
