Artist of the Week: El Lissitzky

El Lissitzky, a Russian avant-garde artist whose work pushed the boundaries of both abstraction and propaganda. Lissitzky was in innovator in both the form of his artworks and the theory behind them. In his Proun series of paintings, Lissitzky used geometric abstraction to evoke architectural space in a two-dimensional plain. He saw these works has templates for the architecture of the developing Soviet Union. See Lissitzky’s work alongside that of his peers Marc Chagall and Kazimir Malevich at the Jewish Museum.
