Artist of the Week: Edward Hopper

Fall days in the city always remind me of Edward Hopper paintings. Both Hopper’s paintings of people, of which Nighthawks is the quintessential example, and his landscapes and street scenes evoke feelings of quietude, isolation, and melancholy. Early Sunday Morning is a favorite of mine for its stark contrast between light and shadow, vibrant colors, and almost eerie lack of human presence.
