Green-Wood cemetery located in Brooklyn is a 478 acre cemetery filled to brim with gothic sculptures and landscaping. Designed before Central and Prospect Parks, it functioned as one of the first large urban parks in the city. A great many famous New Yorkers are buried here. A quote from the New York Times in 1866 sums it up: “It is the ambition of the New Yorker to live upon the Fifth Avenue, to take his airings in the Park, and to sleep with his fathers in Green-wood.”
